Field visits in the Palo Laziale woodland were intensified during the allowed period (June-September 2020) to co-decide on logistics aspects, such as the identification of suitable holding areas for vehicles and materials during the works or the possible creation of an access opening for the works (Figure 3 in Annex Action C.3).
In October 2020, in collaboration with ARSIAL, the final topographical coordinates for positioning the work were precisely traced, and the exact areas to be subjected to the selective clearing operation of Action C.2 were finalised. In this respect, some drawings included in the executive project were modified, and amendments were made to the cost estimation. Permission was also asked from the site owners for transferring the excavated soil to an adjacent coastal cliff exposed to sea erosion to establish a storm surge protection barrier. The dual-purpose of this is reducing the cost of landfilling and implementing a cost-free nature-based solution to mitigate coastal degradation. Other involved stakeholders were construction companies and the local Municipality.
