From 14th to 16th April, a three days action led by a team of ecophysiologists from the University of Padua was conducted in Palo Laziale. Under the supervision of Prof. Vitale, the responsible of the Action, a sap flow measuring system was installed. This new tool will enhance the effectivness of the water managing plan improving the forest knowledge framework, by the collection of data on the xylem flow of the trees targeted by the project. In detail, the system will aim at 1) assessing the gas exchange performance during the growing season of the main tree species in both the high scrub and the degraded forest; 2) quantifying the carbon assimilated at forest stand level and the amount of water lost through transpiration at crown level; 3) monitoring the response of the forest supported by the hydraulic irrigation work during the summer season compared to the not irrigated portion.
